Byron Connections

Famous romantic poet Lord Byron has a number of connections with Nottinghamshire. His ancestral Home was Newstead Abbey, a few miles north of Nottingham, although admittedly he didn't live there for very long.

After numerous shenanicans about the place, including helping revolutionaries in Greece against the Ottoman Empire, where he died aged 36, he was brought back to Notts and buried in the family crypt at St Mary Magdelane's Church in Hucknall, again just northish of Nottingham.

Here are some pics of these two locations. Unfortunately, the andysphotos budget does not currently stretch to getting any pics from his Greek stomping grounds.
